Benefits of Reflexology

It is widely recognised that stress is one of the leading causes of ill health and disease. We all aspire to get that work life balance right but many of us still find it challenging. Booking a reflexology treatment might just provide the incentive you need to be more mindful about your health and wellbeing. I like to support all my clients to help them on that new journey so discussions before and after treatment is an integral part of the service I offer. The physical treatment is always 1 hour which is top and tailed with a chat about your health.

During treatment I don’t play music or use any powerful scents. I believe it is important to allow the body to completely relax and not be distracted by the environment. This is often a unique experience for clients as strategies for relaxing vary for all of us. We are usually busy with some kind of activity when “relaxing.” Most clients don’t engage in conversation so usually treatment is conducted in silence allowing clients to doze, sleep or simply switch off. However, it’s entirely up to you!

My hour with Beth is so relaxing – it is my ‘me-time’ and I feel it benefits my peripheral neuropathy.

The power of touch is professionally researched – that’s why people hold hands and hug as it lowers levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and promotes other feel-good hormones such as oxytocin. However, many people may feel uncomfortable with touch by strangers or are apprehensive about having any kind of complementary treatment. Reflexology is a re-assuring treatment because no undressing is required and touch is limited to the feet (or hands if requested). I have managed to quell the doubts of many clients who have ticklish feet or who are very reserved and sceptical about what they perceive to be a “touchy feely” concept. Many of these clients may fall asleep during their first session and are amazed by the fact they were able to switch off so quickly in a new setting with someone they don’t know! That is the power of reflexology.

Reflexology may also:

  • reduce stress and anxiety
  • improve circulation and the immune system
  • expel toxins by promoting the body to repair itself
  • energise and revitalise
  • alleviate pain or discomfort
  • aid in digestive problems
  • promote better sleep
  • improve mood and sense of wellbeing

Is reflexology suitable for me?

Reflexology is suitable for most people (young and old with a wide range of health issues). However, there are some contexts in which treatment is inadvisable such as pregnancy in the first trimester.

Clients with complex underlying health problems may prefer to consult with their GP before commencing treatment.

If you are undergoing complex cancer treatments, reflexology might also be helpful. I have undertaken training to provide reflexology to support patients undergoing cancer treatment or palliative care. I was lucky enough to volunteer at Cancer Support Yorkshire in Skipton for over a year, offering clients 3 free treatments.

I work with a wide range of male and female clients; professional and retired. I support clients who are feeling a bit stressed with a busy lifestyle or clients who simply want that precious downtime and an amazingly relaxing treatment to support their wellbeing. Whether you are a builder or hairdresser on your feet all day, or you have some joint pain or menopause symptoms, consider exploring reflexology. It is a non-invasive and safe treatment and may help rejuvenate you.

I also treat healthy clients who simply want an enjoyable treat or pick-me-up every now and then. Often clients buy a gift voucher for friends or family to express their thanks as one-off treatments.

During your first treatment we will have a 15-minute consultation to discuss your health and your reasons for choosing reflexology. This is your opportunity to ask any questions and let me know how I can help!

Beth is friendly, interested and relaxed. She follows up on matters of concern. I often fall asleep during treatment!

It’s great to be able to book a joint appointment at our home at a time that suits my husband and I. Having running, stressed feet”, Beth’s reflexology helps to keep them light and flexible. Much needed when I was in marathon training!
